Avery's 5 year Check-Up

We had Avery's 5 year old check-up today and it went great!  Our favorite Dr.Crow is back from maternity leave (sidenote: she personally called me at 9PM on the night that Gracyn went to the ER just to check in with us and to see if she could do anything.  We are a fan of her's for LIFE now!  Such a  great doctor!) so Avery's got to see her today!  She is 64% on weight (42.4 lb) and as always she is off the charts, >100%, for height at 46.5 inches- almost 4 feet tall already!  The doctor said again that she thinks Avery will at least be 5' 9" or 5' 10" tall at a minimum!  My tall skinny girl!
She aced all the other developmental stuff, as well as great vision and hearing and had a great check-up with no shots this time!


I always feel so grateful for such fun, easy well-checks with my girls!

Needless to say we have a had a very hectic past few weeks so blogging and Nicspics has suffered.  Sorry ;-(

Everyone finally seems to be feeling better.  Gracyn is finally responding to medicine and back to her happy, crazy little self.  Hopefully this is the last time we have to deal with this staph stuff.  It is no fun and I think we have most definitely paid our dues.




Avery fully milked her 5th birthday "Its my birthday week so i get to get in the car first."  "Its my birthday so I get to choose the game we play."  I think she has finally gotten past it but she squeezed every last ounce out of her birthday, as she should ;-)



Gracyn is still on medicine for staph and will attempt to go back to school this week for the first time.  They unpacked the wound at the ER on Saturday and it has been doing good with daily bandage changes at home.  We go to the pediatrician to checkup on everything again later today.

Avery's 5th Birthday

Although Avery's birthday didn't end up like we thought it would (see previous post for details), it started out really great!

She woke up to balloons in her room and streamers to surprise her.  Always a crowd favorite.

We got dressed and per Avery's request we went to get donuts for breakfast and then after a quick meeting with Papa, we headed to American girl for a special birthday lunch!

When did she get so big?

American Girl!  

Avery specifically asked for "my whole family to come help celebrate" so Daddy was more than happy to oblige.

American Girl is such a fun special place to do little girl birthdays.  It was so much fun and Avery had a  great time.
Sadly right after we left lunch here we headed to the ER for Gracyn, but Avery still seemed to have a wonderful birthday nonetheless.  :-)

We are so proud of the caring, intelligent, beautiful, perceptive BIG girl you have become.  You teach us new things every day and we thank God every day for giving us such a special first born girl.  We love you!

Somewhere the day took a turn in the wrong direction.....

Yesterday was Avery's 5th birthday (post to follow) and we had a super big huge fun day planned but had to take an unexpected trip to the ER after lunch for poor Gracyn. She had a abscess drained on her hip on Monday and it was not responding to the medication and ruptured so we headed straight to Children's ER.


She was in so much pain. It was the saddest thing to see. They gave her a sedative and incised it to drain it further and gave her IV meds. Pretty sad sight and she did NOT like being at the hospital at all. Any person wearing scrubs made her cry.


And just like her daddy, she apparently gets sick after sedation so we were at the ER about 6 hours waiting for her to feel a little better.


Thankfully my sweet friend Lisa took Avery so she didn't have to spend her birthday at the ER and she had a blast playing at her friends house.
Turns out the Gracyn's wound is a staph infection and they had her on the wrong medication but we got everything settled and left around 730 last night.



She's still a little sore today and very hesitant for any one to touch her but she seems to be feeling a little better. We have to go back to the ER to get the wound unpacked and repacked tomorrow so say a prayer that goes smoothly and this whole fiasco is behind us soon!

Saturday March 2- Everyone piled into Allison's to help move her in.  Great-grandma was in charge of Connor

Sunday March 3- Guess who's in a big girl bed???!!!

Big Girl Bed!

Gracyn is in a big girl bed!!! Not much thought went into it. We basically just woke up on Sunday and thought "I guess it's time for Gracyn to move on up to that toddler bed." So we converted it!

And she did great! I shouldn't be shocked because this is the same little girl who gave up the paci without any trouble, who transitioned to whole milk and sippy cups on the same day, and who potty trained before she was even two. She is so easy going and as soon as we said she was going to be "big like Avery" then she was all in!
And she didn't even try to get out of bed or cry or anything!!
Way to go Gracyn Paige!!! We are so proud of our big girl in her big girl bed!
